Formula to make setbacks positive

SparkPeopleHello from Sparkguy

Hi SparkPeople Members

If you missed last week's email, I put the text of that email on my blog. This gives an overview of me and what I've been writing about if you are new to this email.

Before I jump into today's topic, I want to share an exciting story: a SparkPeople member made a post about how her daughter (who is also a SparkPeople member) will be performing a piano recital at Carnegie Hall this Sunday the 21st! She posts a great photo of her daughter in her gown and says this is thanks in part to following her SparkPeople plan. Take a 10-second look at this post by clicking here.

I love seeing members reach goals in all areas of life -- what a thrill to perform at Carnegie Hall! Hopefully we'll get more details about this performance that I can share with you later.

Today's topic is a good one. For my Small Goals Commitment Challenge, I wrote a lesson about how to make setbacks positive. The reason I chose this as an early lesson is because when I comment on member posts every day in the community, it's common to see people stressed out that they've had some type of setback. I realized it wasn't possible to have a quick blurb to give the best answer for handling setbacks, so I wrote a lesson about this that gives you a simple formula to follow anytime you have just about any kind of setback. The quick summary is that everyone has setbacks and they can actually be a great part of any learning process!

Here is what one member says in the comments on this lesson:

This reminded me of what I have frequently said about my beadwork - I learn more from correcting mistakes than from doing the stitch/pattern right. That's also been true in photography. Now I just need to apply that to other areas!

Thanks to your support, we've now had over 15,000 preses of the SparkButton. This is a fun way to commit to reaching your small goals. Hopefully the more content I put together for this challenge, the more everyone will realize just how meaningful it can be to make this type of small commitment in a simple and fun way by pressing the button. You don't need to be logged in to click the button, just visit this link and scroll down to the bottom of the page and join the fun -- help us reach our next goal of 20,000 presses! Have a great week!
